Publishing through Windows 2000

From Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2000 Advanced Server, you can connect to a WebDAV publishing directory on another server. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Double-click the My Network Places icon on your desktop.
  2. Double-click Add Network Place.
  3. In the Add Network Place Wizard, type the URL of the WebDAV directory you want to connect to.
  4. Click Next.
  5. Type a friendly name for the directory you are connecting to.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. Double-click My Network Places.
  8. You will see the friendly name of the Web Folder for the WebDAV site. For example, if you typed My Publishing Folder as the friendly name, you will see Shortcut to My Publishing Folder.

  9. Double-click the Web Folder name.
  10. Following the example in the previous step, double-click Shortcut to My Publishing Folder. You will see a list of the files in that directory.

Note   IIS 5.0 is not installed by default on Windows 2000 Professional. Therefore, if your server is running Windows 2000 Professional and you did not select IIS 5.0 among the options to install, you have to install it manually. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. In the left column of the Add/Remove Programs dialog box, click Add/Remove Windows Components.
  3. When the Windows Components Wizard appears, click Next.
  4. In the Windows Components list, select IIS.
  5. Click Next, and follow the instructions.
